Alamo Colleges
The Value
For over a decade, The C2 Group has been the trusted partner for Alamo Colleges, providing strategic support and expert guidance for their digital ecosystem. Most recently, our collaboration has led to significant advancements, including a pivotal series of site enhancements in 2022, followed by a comprehensive DXP upgrade, strategic improvements to their use of Optimizely Search and Navigation, crucial UX updates, and the implementation of a refined measurement plan in 2023. By making the site more navigable, search results more relevant, and content more accessible, C2 has empowered Alamo Colleges District to better serve its diverse student base and streamline the journey for future enrollees, solidifying their reputation as an accessible and student-centric institution.

The Challenge
Despite a long-standing commitment to digital excellence, Alamo Colleges faced several critical challenges that hindered engagement and accessibility for both current and, more acutely, prospective students. Users across the board encountered significant difficulty reaching deeper site content, leading to frustration and a high bounce rate. Student engagement rates were a major concern, as their website struggled to capture the attention of this vital segment. The existing search experience was especially difficult to navigate, consistently failing to deliver relevant results.
Furthermore, a substantial portion of Alamo's audience engaged with their digital properties from mobile devices, yet program pages and overall site layout were not optimally responsive. This led to persistent issues with mobile navigation and layout, with users reporting fonts that were too small and an overall Browse experience that felt intimidating and overwhelming. While current students found the navigation menu challenging, prospective students were more broadly affected by poor mobile design, which directly impacted their initial impression and ability to find crucial information.
The website's content and design also contributed to the challenges. Both current and prospective students expressed a negative opinion of the homepage content and layout, often describing it as overwhelming with too much information and a disproportionate focus on events rather than core academic pathways. Simple but vital information, such as a phone number, was often difficult to locate. This combined digital friction led to lower conversion rates for prospective students and a less efficient information-gathering process for all users. Addressing these multifaceted concerns with targeted, incremental enhancements was crucial for Alamo Colleges to better serve its student base and achieve its mission goals related to prospective student enrollment and success.

The Outcome
The C2 Group embarked on a strategic series of projects designed to directly address Alamo Colleges District's identified digital pain points, building upon our long-standing CSO partnership. Our comprehensive solution initiated with a site enhancement discovery in 2022, laying the groundwork for targeted improvements. This was followed in 2023 by a critical DXP upgrade, modernizing the core digital experience platform. We then implemented significant enhancements to the site's search and navigation functionalities, directly improving content discoverability and user flow. Our team executed crucial UX updates that included optimizing mobile layouts and font sizes, making the site far less intimidating and more intuitive for mobile users.
Additionally, we developed and integrated a new measurement plan to provide Alamo Colleges with actionable insights into user behavior and engagement. These incremental enhancements were designed to specifically improve the experience for prospective students, making the homepage content more inviting and relevant, and simplifying the process of finding program information and essential contact details. By focusing on these key areas, C2 enabled Alamo Colleges District to more effectively address the needs of its entire student base and significantly enhance its outreach to prospective students, aligning directly with their core mission goals.
